Information Leaflet 2/ 2005

Registration of Vessels and Certificates of Fitness

Clubs are reminded of their responsibilities as authorised agencies of SAS concerning the implementation of the Small Vessel Regulations.

All sailing and power vessels operating in coastal areas require to be registered with one of six authorised agencies including SAS, and to have a Certificate of Fitness.

Those vessels not complying with this requirement should be confined to moorings and Safety Officers have the authority to enforce this. Certificates of Fitness are only valid for one year and hence these must be renewed annually on the anniversary of the previous C of F.

Those Safety Officers that have been appointed by SAS have the authority to inspect both sailing and power vessels. This means that multi-type clubs may arrange for Registration and C of F's for both sailing and power vessels.
