This marine notice sets out the implementation dates for skippers and small vessels to comply with the provisions of the Merchant Shipping (National Small Vessel Safety) Regulations 2007 as amended with respect to Certificates of Competence and design and construction requirements respectively. The downloadable PDF file giving full details must be read by every boat owner and everyone who takes charge of a boat on inland waters. In brief, the implementation dates listed in the pdf file are for vessels and skippers operating solely on inland waters i.e. Category R vessels. This extension is welcomed by SAS as it gives us more time to implement the necessary systems to assist our members to comply.
