Royal Cape Yacht Club in conjunction with Club Mykonos under the sanction and authority of South African Sailing - Western Cape.
- RULES
Save where these are altered by this Notice of Regatta and the Sailing Instructions, races will be governed by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 - 2012 (RRS), SAS/SAMSA Safety Regulations minimum Category C - Race 1 and Category D - Bay Races; the Class Rules of participating Classes; The IRC Rules, parts 1,2&3. The Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions and any Amendments thereof. Where relevant, precedence shall be given in the reverse order of the above listing. In the event of contradictions, the interpretations of the Protest Committee shall be final and binding upon all participants
- ADVERTISING
The Regatta will be classified as a Category "C" event in terms of 2010/12 ISAF Regulations Appendix 2010/2011, which shall only apply while racing. House Flags, Banners and Sail Covers, which show advertising, shall not be worn when racing.
- ENTRIES
- ENTRIES CLOSE: 18H00 FRIDAY 17TH FEBRUARY 2012.
- LATE ENTRIES CLOSE 12H00 WEDNESDAY 22nd FEBRUARY 2012.
- LATE ENTRY FEE OF R330.00 PER YACHT PLUS R150.00 PER CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER) WILL APPLY.
Entries must be submitted on the official entry form, accompanied by the entry fee and all relevant forms by 18h00 on Friday 17th February 2012.

Only fully paid entries received by the stated time will be considered valid entries.

The entry fee is R220.00 per YACHT, plus R110.00 per person (inclusive of Skipper).
For those entering the Bay Pursuit race only, the entry fee is R110.00 per yacht plus R55.00 per person, (inclusive of Skipper).
Late entries are not guaranteed complete Regatta Packs.
For yachts participating in Race 1 - Race 3 (Cape Town to Club Mykonos), the attached Safety Declaration must be completed in full and signed by the skipper and his appointed crewmember. (The SA Sailing Special Regulations for Sea Going Yachts booklet is obtainable from South African Sailing).
- ELIGIBILITY
Races 1-3: Yachts with a RORC (IRC) Safety and Stability Screening numeral of 20 or greater, Including maximum adjustment, unless exempted by the Race Committee
The Skipper in command shall hold no less than a SA Sailing Days Skipper's Certificate. The race will be sailed under the South African Sailing controlled event status.
Race 4 (Bay Race): All yachts considered acceptable to the Race Committee as indicated in Paragraph 8 below.
Any class of yacht recognised by the Race Committee as a class, having 5 or more starters, shall constitute a class.
Competitors shall comply with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) eligibility requirement in accordance with 2005 ISAF Regulation 19 & RRS 75 which requires that all competitors (helmspersons and all other crew) shall be members in good standing of a Yacht Club affiliated to and in good standing with SA Sailing or their Member National Authority in the case of non-South Africans. The Yacht Club name and membership details shall be stated on the entry form. Current valid South African Sailing Membership numbers shall be presented at Registration.
- CREW
- Club Fleet - Crew maximum numbers are limited to the number as stated on the yacht's COF (Certificate Of Fitness).
- IRC Fleet - Crew maximum numbers are limited to the number as stated on the yacht's IRC Certificate, providing that number is not greater than the yacht's COF (Certificate of Fitness).
- SAILS
IRC boats are permitted to carry one extra spinnaker to what is stated on their endorsed IRC Certificate.
- FLEET CATEGORIES
- Club Fleet - May be split into 3 Divisions, the fleet split will be made available on the 18th February 2012.
- IRC Fleet - May be split into two Divisions, the fleet split will be made available on the 18th February 2012.
- Multihull Fleet - May be split into two Divisions, cruising and sport.
- COURSES
Four races only shall be sailed as follows:
- Race 1: Table Bay to a boat anchored off Dassen Island Lighthouse - will be known as a "scoring gate"
- Race 2: Dassen Island scoring gate to a mark layed off Club Mykonos Harbour Wall. (Please note that there will not be a restart at Dassen Island, individual yacht times will be noted for the correct scoring).
- Race 3: The total race from Cape Town to Club Mykonos
- Race 4: A pursuit race off Club Mykonos (please refer to the Sailing Instructions)
- STARTS
- Race 1 - 3 (Cape Town - Club Mykonos, through Dassen Island Gate)
- Club Division 2 - 3: Table Bay 08h30, Friday, 24th February 2012 - CLASS FLAG No. 2
- Multihull Cruising: Table Bay 08h30, Friday, 24th February 2012 - CLASS FLAG No. 2
- Club Division 1: Table Bay 09h00, Friday, 24th February 2012 - CLASS FLAG No. 1
- IRC Div 1 and 2: Table Bay 09h00, Friday, 24th February 2012 - CLASS FLAG No. 1
- Multihull Sport: Table Bay 09h00, Friday, 24th February 2012 - CLASS FLAG No. 1
The start will be between the Royal Cape Yacht Club Bridge Hut and No.10 Harbour buoy.
Any change will be advised on the Notice Board by 07h00 on Friday, 24th February 2012 and on VHF Channel 6 from the Bridge. (These changes may include a short beat to the Paarden Island buoy as well as which quarter No. 10 will be left to)
- Race 4 Pursuit Race
Club Mykonos, Saturday, 25th February 2012 will be a Pursuit Race. Race 4 will start at approx 10h30 (please refer to the Sailing Instructions for the course).
HANDICAP SYSTEM, RACE RESULTS & SCORING
Scoring for the series shall be in accordance with the RRS Appendix A4 Low Point scoring system. There will be no discards.
- Division 1 - 3 Club Handicap
Race 4 pursuit race - positions will be according to position over the finish line. (Corrected time is not calculated)
- IRC Division 1 - 2
Race 1 - 4. All results will be calculated using the IRC TCC Factor. Placing will be in order of corrected time.
- RCYC Club Handicap
Results will be calculated using the R.C.Y.C. Club Handicap System. Any yacht that has changed its sail or hull measurements since the issue of its Club Rating must submit a new RRD (Royal Cape Ratings Division Handicap System) Club Handicap application form. RRD applications will close on Monday the 20th February 2012. For RRD enquiries email rrd@rcyc.co.za .
- The Race Committee reserves the right to correct any errors at any time during the Regatta.
A list of yachts entered and their ratings will be posted on the Notice board before 16h00 on Thursday 23rd February 2012.
REGISTRATION
- Registration will take place between 16h00 and 18h00 on Thursday 23rd February 2012 in the Main Hall. Regatta packs will be issued at Registration on Thursday 23rd February from 16h00.
- Proof of South African Sailing Membership must be produced at registration - see Para. 5 - 'Eligibility' above.
SKIPPERS BRIEFING
A compulsory Skippers Briefing will be held in the Main Hall RCYC at 18h00 on Thursday 23rd February 2012. The skipper may be substituted by his or her navigator if he or she cannot attend)
SAFETY & SCRUTINY
- It shall be the responsibility of the skipper and an appointed member of his crew to inspect his boat for compliance with the Safety regulations of this Regatta, the rules and regulations of the IRC Rules, the Safety Declaration form must be signed and handed to the Race Secretary by not later than Thursday, 23rd February 2012.
- A random selection of boats will be identified for safety inspections to take place after Registration on Thursday 23rd February and also at Club Mykonos after all the races. The owner and appointed crewmember will be available to accompany the scrutineer to the boat and to assist with the inspection.
LIABILITY
- Competitors sail entirely at their own risk. The onus on whether to start a race and to continue a race lies entirely with the skipper of the competing yacht. None of the organizations or persons concerned in the running of the regatta accepts any liability for damage or injury, material or personal, suffered during the races or at any other time however arising.
- Each competing boat shall be adequately insured with Third Party and Passenger Liability cover of a minimum of R2 million.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be available from 16h00 on Thursday 23rd February 2012 at the Race Secretary's Office at Royal Cape Yacht Club, and will be posted on this website.
TROPHIES & PRIZES
- There will be trophies awarded for the IRC Fleet 1 & 2 and the RCYC Club Handicap Fleet.
- There will also be a first prize for each class that has 5 or more starters.
- Other prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Race Committee based on the entries received.
- The Prize Giving will be held on the Terrace at Club Mykonos, Saturday 25th February 2012 at approximately 18h30.
ERRORS AND OMISSIONS
On good cause, the Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend any of the paragraphs of this Notice of Race, subject to adequate notice being given via amendment.

"IRC Fleet - Crew maximum numbers are limited to the number as stated on the yacht's IRC Certificate, this number can be increased if the total weight of the crew (in shorts) does not exceed 85 kilograms X the certificate number; providing that the number of crew is not greater than the yacht's COF (Certificate of Fitness)."
