Table Bay Yacht Club House 1905

Taken from the bottom of the slipway that went into Roggebay, this photo shows TBYC clubhouse next to Bob Steven's boat building shed. TBYC were evicted in 1909 when the harbour needed the land. The club then shared the changing rooms of the Alfred Rowing Club and used the V&A clock tower for storage (as did the dragonboaters 90 years later!) Five generations of RCYC membership - Bob's grandson Melville and great grandson Geoff (also a boat-builder) are current members of RCYC and Bob's great great grandsons are moving to Cape Town and will soon become young RCYC members!
